Lunch & Learn: Creating Healthier, High-Performing Teams in the Mortgage Industry
On 20 July 2026, Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) co-founder Jason Berry hosted a thought-provoking Lunch & Learn Q&A in partnership with Working in Mortgages, bringing together senior leaders from across the industry to discuss how businesses can create healthier, more inclusive and higher-performing workplace cultures.
The discussion featured an experienced panel including Richard Beardshaw (HSBC UK) and Charles Morley (Metro Bank) who shared honest reflections on leadership, culture, inclusion and the importance of supporting colleagues in an increasingly demanding industry.
Rather than focusing solely on mental health, the conversation explored the wider relationship between employee wellbeing, engagement, leadership and commercial performance.
Topics included:
- Creating psychologically safe workplaces where people feel able to speak openly.
- The role leaders play in shaping culture through everyday behaviours.
- Supporting diversity and inclusion as a driver of better decision-making and stronger teams.
- Recognising the importance of early intervention and proactive wellbeing support.
- Practical actions businesses of all sizes can take to improve colleague wellbeing and long-term performance.
Following the Q&A, Angelika Christian, Strategic Partnerships and Propositions Manager at Accord Mortgages, hosted a practical armchair yoga and wellbeing session alongside Guneet Khurana also from Accord Mortgages giving attendees simple techniques to improve posture, reduce tension and take meaningful wellbeing practices back into their working day.
The session forms part of the ongoing Working in Mortgages Lunch & Learn programme, which provides free educational webinars designed to encourage learning, inclusion and healthier workplace cultures across the mortgage profession.
At MIMHC, we firmly believe that healthier people create healthier businesses. By bringing together industry leaders to share experiences, practical ideas and actionable insights, these sessions help move the conversation beyond awareness and towards meaningful change across the mortgage sector.
(MIMHC) is a not-for-profit organisation that was founded to raise awareness of employees’ mental health and how the industry can take positive action to improve it.
MIMHC is made up of 7 co-founding firms plus over 250 signatory companies across the mortgage industry that represent over 20,000 individuals. All these firms agree to be bound by MIMHC’s 6 Governing Rules which apply best practice health and wellbeing guidelines and are summarised as ‘The MIMHC Charter’.
